(commonly referred to as Botox®)
Botulinum toxin is a ‘prescription only medicine’, made from purified protein. It has been safely used since 1980 and was originally used by ophthalmologists treating blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking) and strabismus (crossed eyes)
As a result, in the late 80’s it was noted that this would have a use within the cosmetic market and is now widely used by aesthetic practitioners to treat mild to moderate facial lines and wrinkles. It was later discovered to inhibit sweating and is subsequently now used to treat hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) as well as other medical conditions.
Anti wrinkle injections are injected into specific muscles to temporarily relax them, softening facial expressions and helping to reverse the signs of aging and wrinkles. The effects of anti wrinkle injections may be visible after 48 hours however the maximum effect is likely to take two weeks. Treatment is generally effective for approximately 3-4 months.
Dermal fillers are injectable gels containing hyaluronic acid, which is a substance naturally occurring in the body. The results of treatment are instant and the product will generally be effective for 9-12 months although this is variable, dependent on the client and the areas treated. The product naturally degrades over time.
The Restylance range of products used contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic for greater comfort and a topical anaesthetic cream is also offered.
Dermal fillers used to treat the signs of aging such as loss of volume, moderate to deeper lines, sculpturing, and thinning and drying of the skin. They are also used to create fullness and shape in areas for enhancement such as lips and cheeks.
In addition to Restylane, Lisa offers Radiesse which is an injectable implant to provide volume and contouring in addition to the stimulation of production of collagen. This treatment is ideal for Cheek augmentation and severe lines and folds with improvement to the superficial condition of the skin.
For both treatments, a topical anaesthetic can be applied for greater comfort but as with any injection there maybe some slight discomfort. Potential side effects will be discussed at your consultation, but are likely to be nothing more serious than a mild headache and a reaction at the site of injections such as redness, swelling or bruising
